Andreas Gnibba

I paint what makes me stop and look.

It may be the way light changes a familiar place, a figure glimpsed in passing, the fragile presence of a flower, or something almost disappearing into its surroundings.

I do not want to define everything I see. Some forms remain clear; others dissolve, overlap, or are reduced to traces. I like the point at which a painting begins to suggest more than it describes.

Watercolor, acrylic, and pastel each allow me to approach this differently. Sometimes colour flows and forms are barely held together; sometimes darkness or a sudden intensity of colour changes the entire atmosphere.

What interests me is not only what is there, but what a fleeting moment can leave behind.
