Post-Truth Still Life reflects on an era in which objective facts increasingly compete with perceived truths. Fake news, “alternative facts,” AI hallucinations, and deepfakes blur the distinction between what is real, fabricated, and merely convincing.

The pineapple draws on the tradition of still life, in which fruit has long served as a familiar representation of reality. At first glance, it appears almost real—perhaps even more perfect than its natural counterpart. Yet it cannot be cut, bitten into, or eaten. Its convincing appearance does not make it what it seems to be.

When appearances can be constructed so convincingly, how do we decide what is real—and what is true?
