Outside and Inside

Outside and Inside explores the gap between outward appearance and what may be concealed within. What we see from the outside offers only a partial view; appearances do not necessarily reveal inner structure, texture, or substance.

The forms are inspired by fruits and vegetables whose interiors differ strikingly from their surfaces. An artichoke conceals layer upon layer; beneath the tough shell of a mangosteen lies soft, juicy, sweet flesh; while a cherimoya hides creamy, vanilla-like flesh punctuated by hard seeds beneath its apple-like exterior.

Outside and inside may differ in unexpected ways. How much can we really know from what we see?
